with diameter 26.2 mm and length 50 mm. Commonly used in consumer electronic devices like toys and flashlights, the C battery may
be [primary](/entry/tc-ec-cell-p) (single-use) or [secondary](/entry/tc-ec-cell-s)
(multi-use). 
The voltage and capacity of a C-size battery depends on the battery chemistry and discharge conditions. The nominal voltage is 1.5V. Alkaline C batteries have a storage capacity up to 8,000 mAh while rechargeable NiMH C batteries can hold up to 6,000 mAh. These storage capacities are significantly higher than those of the better-known [AA](/entry/tc-batt-aa) and [AAA](tc-batt-aaa) batteries.

            (multi-use). 
            The nominal voltage of the D battery is 1.5 V. Alkaline D batteries have a storage capacity of up to 12,000 V.

            to an international standard. The standard will usually specify the battery's size and shape. Often the
            standard will also specify the nominal voltage and the exact battery chemistry as well.

A battery is an assembly of one or more [galvanic cells](/entry/tc-ec-cell-g) that can be used to power electrical devices using stored energy. The cells are packaged in a container that provides external electrical external connections, usually a positive and a negative terminal.

An **A23 battery** is a standard cylindrical multiple-[cell](/entry/tc-ec-cell-g) [battery](/entry/tc-battery)
            with diameter 10.0 mm and length 28.2 mm, making it similar in size to the [N battery](/entry/tc-batt-n), and nearly half the length of the more common [AA battery](/entry/tc-batt-aa). The A23 battery is used mainly in small electronic radio devices like key fobs and wireless headsets.  
            The nominal voltage of the A23 battery is 12 V. While this is significantly larger than the nominal voltage of most cylindrical batteries, it is necessary for transmitting and receiving radio signals. Alkaline N batteries have a storage capacity of about 55 mAh.

            with diameter 12 mm and length 30.2 mm, making it significantly shorter than the more common [AA battery](/entry/tc-batt-aa). The N battery is used in small electronic devices including microphones or laser pointers. The N battery may be [primary](/entry/tc-ec-cell-p) (single-use) or [secondary](/entry/tc-ec-cell-s) (multi-use), however rechargeable N batteries are far less common than other sizes. 
            The nominal voltage of the N battery is 1.5 V. Alkaline N batteries have a storage capacity of up to 1,000 mAh.

A **9-volt battery** is a standard rectangular prism-shape [battery](/entry/tc-battery). The 9-volt battery
            is often refered to as the PP3 battery. It has height 48.5 mm, length 26.5 mm, and width 17.5 mm. 
            Most nine-volt alkaline batteries are constructed of six individual cylindrical 1.5 V LR61 cells enclosed in a wrapper.^[from Wikipedia, see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nine-volt_battery].
            Other compositions are used, such as six stacked individual rectangular cells.
            9-volt batteries are manufactured with many different chemical compositions, some of which include alkaline,

            The storage capacity of the 9-volt battery is approximately 550 mAh.
